Musicians Top 3

Here’s my Musicians Top 3 as I think it has been and will be for a long time (Well, it does change now & then, right?):

1. David Bowie
Because as an artist, as a musician (both regarding creativity & as in the profession) and as a human being, nobody comes near him. Hours… (1999) and Heathen (2002) were close to true masterpieces, and I look forward to his next, Reality. His constantly fluctuating and ever evolving explorations into his own sound, human nature, politics, philosophy and more makes him the leader of the pack. And he’s a bloody nice guy too (second hand experience).

2. Chick Corea
The guy made me want to play Jazz, after having listened to what I regard as a forever jazz-classic, Eye of the Beholder (1988). His unique playful blending of styles, varying from jazz to rock to latin to classical, and his approach towards music and its philosophy makes him one of the best composers ever.

3. Bj??rk
This was a tough one. I had several candidates, including Radiohead, Genesis and some commonly regarded “classics”, but Bj??rk wins because of her way of turning everything upside down and looking at it from the other side. Her truly otherworldly style has changed my way of composing and listening to music. Truly a one-of-a-kind woman.

What is your top 3?

Ok, this was a challenge. YAY! I love a challenge!

    In no particular order:

My sentimental fave would be Aerosmith, they have had staying/comeback power that many of today’s artists/bands simply don’t have. Sure, they made a few clunkers along the way, but albums like “Permanent Vacation” and “Pump” more than made up for it.

Second would be Santana, because of his originality and adaptability as an artist, despite long periods of time between some album releases, he usually makes them worth the wait.

Frank Zappa - masterful lyricist and under-rated guitarist, not to mention a natural comedian at heart. I have only had the opportunity to listen to about ten of his fifty (or more) releases, but I have yet to run into one I didn’t love from beginning to end, with Joe’s Garage being one of my faves, Sheik Yerbouti my second.

Oh I could go on and on Mas, you really got me going today :)

Joe’s Garage is great! Nice ones - they were included in my “classics”…! (^_^)

  3. It’s a tough one, but here goes:

    1) Coldplay

I have to love these guys for their melodic music and truthful lyrics.

    2) Linkin Park

Great guys! Great concerts and - oh - great music. If I had the guts I’d get tatooed like Chaz.

    3) Korn

Agressive as hell - guess they had a real bad childhood all of them but the energy of the music is truely something that hits the deeply buried and repressed insane and agressive person inside me ;-)

    “Bring it doooown…”

Please … can I choose others?

Be my guest, Dr. T. Anything is allowed in here (well, almost anything)! (^_^)

  5. 1. Radiohead

    2. Yo La Tengo

    3. Teenage Fanclub/ White Stripes

    I think that’s 4 entries, but that’s ok right? :)
