Belive in belief
According to a book, I am currently reading, written by the Danish science journalist Tor Nørretranders called ‘At tro på at tro’ (’To believe in belief’), studies have shown that there might be a link between being nice towards other people (including being polite, kissing, cuddling & having sex etc.) and a certain hormone, called Oxytocine that induces close to the same feelings in your brain as if you were taking drugs. Wicked. This could mean that humans have a natural tendency towards being nice towards each other. Nice thought. According to Tor, this and studies with experimental economy could lead us towards a scientific understanding of why religions work as they do. I’m looking forward to read more in this exciting book…

wow. sounds interesting. I’m also v. interested in how religions work. Is the book translated into English? Or if you have any recommendations?

Some of his books have been translated into English as far as I know, but not this one yet (it’s brand new). I don’t have any other recommendations regarding religions though… I have an interesting Danish article about a survey where scientists have found similar brain wave patterns between different religions (Catholicism & Buddhism) while subjects were praying / meditating. Could be a link to Oxytocine…
