Mactel?

Apple went to bed with Intel yesterday. I really don’t know what to say.

One thing is that games could be easier to port to the Mac, but I’m mostly a pro user and gaming is for my X-box (long live the Dreamcast), and a cheaper Mac? Well, that I need to see, before I believe it. The superiority of a Mac is in the intricate and beautiful melody of all components playing well together and yes, that costs. Anyway, let me quote:

1. Apple is not going into the software business, their operating system will not run on other vendor’s hardware. So you won’t be running the Mac OS on Dell, HP or IBM, for example. and 2. While Windows is not explicitly supported, they won’t do anything to prevent Windows from running on their hardware.

People can now install Linux on their Macs as it is right now, but I really don’t know how to take the sight of a streamlined Powerbook with XP / Longhorn on it… Luckily the OS X isn’t going to run on other platforms.

But I totally agree with this guy. Apple should have looked towards their partners in crime in all aspects - Sun. I really do not hope this could be the beginning of the end for Apple’s hardware line. Let’s see. The OS has been running on Intel for five years, so there is a plan behind it. But is it a good one? I’m not totally convinced. Time will tell.

One thing, though: If I as much as catch a single tiny glimpse of a logo of Intel on top or front of the Macintosh hardware line (as required by trademark issues on Wintel machines) I will run away, screaming, kicking, and go directly to Linux - immediately. I am not a former MacMarine for frigging nothing. Beware Steve.
