Reality web
I despise reality TV. But only when it doesn’t do any good. Such programs like the ones where they help people (without modifying them with plastic surgery!!!), like the one (can’t remember the name), where they take a poor family and rip their home apart and build a beautiful place for them instead - giving them a kind of fresh start (often accompanied with a donation from the neighbourhood or the construction company etc.). I know it’s there for product placement, but I don’t care. It’s nice to see people be helped when they truly need it. Even though the dilemma about not being able to help all people in need is there, having to chose one from another - but how can you anyway?
Fuck the rest of the reality shows. Narcissistic, infantile bastards, the ones exposing themselves for money, so-called ‘fame’ and the unavoidable humiliation and shame on the producers for blatantly choosing the right ‘mix’ of psychological profiles and ‘game play’ that inevitably will bring conflicts (and thereby ‘action’) to the series. If I as much as hear the sentence “You are voted off the island”, I start to see read. Period. And don’t give me that shit about “It portrays real life and real conflicts, human behaviour that we can all learn from.” Bullshit. It’s fake environments, fake people (carefully chosen), fake circumstances. Don’t tell me that its anything close to reality! It’s like watching teenagers taking sixth grade all over again on a public playground. Pathetic.
It’s the same with celebrity stalkers/shows/fans (the crazy ones), pop magazines, royal weddings (Danish phenomenon) paparazzi etc. We crave it. They give it to us. So in the end we’re all in the same boat, I guess.
But here’s some ‘reality web’. If you don’t know Craigslist, you may want to spend your lunchtime going through their Best Of…. You can find some funny stuff there, such as Open Letter to all Honda Owners, or For Rent: 1979 Woman or even My iPod Shuffle Thinks I’m Gay. Funny.
(Why am I such a grumpy old bastard these days…?)
