The Film School… act two

As expected, I didn’t get any further with my application to the National Film School of Denmark. The school was so kind to get one of the members of the application committee to write me a few words as to explain why. Much to my pleasure I learned that it wasn’t the craftsmanship that was lacking as such, but the scope of my films. The kind instructor who wrote to me pointed out that I need to “orchestrate” more, i.e. getting more people into my films, thus broadening the universe of the story and driving the plot forward in a more “dynamic” manner. My plots have so far concentrated themselves around a “feeling” and one character – which is a result of me not having tons of time and funds to do film with.
And that’s what’s stressing me. Time and money. I am running this as self-studies, therefore I do not have a giant crew and a dozen of actors in my backyard, ready to do some hard work for no money… Hmm… I have to walk into my think-tank…

Hiya Massi,
I don’t visit as often I used to, so it’s great to see you still throwing the punches. I’m sorry this one missed the target, you must be very disappointed, but with your determination I know you won’t stop here.
I love your selfportrait that was published – congratulations!
Best wishes for the future .. Rosi

Thanks! Always a pleasure when you “stop by” Rosi. Hope everything is well in “the big brown land down under”! ,’-)
Actually, I’m not so disappointed , knowing that’s “only” the scopes of the movies I need to work with. The only downer is that I can’t apply again before 2009. Two years in between them taking in new applicants… I will be 36 by then… But what the heck. I enjoy a good challenge… ,’-)

you should apply to the school I work with. the International Academy of Film and Television. Its a one year program where you could make your next film then submit it to the National Film School in Denmark. The IAFT is in the Philippines so everything is really cheap.. cost of living, and the price of the school, no permits to pay for when shooting, etc. Could be a good chance for you to make your next film since you have two years in between. thanks!
