RIP Natasja

Natasja [Source: Natasja's MySpace profile].

Warning: Uncontrolled rant ahead. You have been warned.

Only 5-10% of all musicians can make a living of their craftsmanship. 80% of those we never hear of. This involves many variables, but mostly, musicians either have a part time job or they have their calendars booked but never prostitutes themselves in order to get a steady income through the traditional means, i.e. through record companies. I won’t get into details now, but just trust a guy who knows a bit about this.

So take Natasja. Or ‘Little T’ as she was also known. I have never once seen her name appear on any front page of any newspaper, and if I have missed one, then it had to have involved some sort of made-up ’scandal’. Not that I ever would think Natasja should or could have been involved in any such thing, but because that’s how newspapers work. It sells.

She died yesterday in a tragic car accident, and now the newspapers are stumbling upon each other to mourn and to praise her, and her abundant talent.

Guess what: She can’t appreciate it now.

Fucking hypocritical scavengers.

RIP Natasja. You did marvellously well, even though I never became a fan.

  1. Hear, hear! Sadly, this is but one example… :-(

  2. I couldn’t agree more… but, don’t you think you’re joining the bandwagon by using a picture of Natasha which neatly attract the attention of readers? I know you mean good, but I couldn’t not notice the contraddiction, specially when it doesn’t come from a fan. ;-)

  3. Well, first of all I doubt my post here will reach a wide audience :-)

Second, I always try to post pictures on my posts. No matter the content. Pictures speak louder than words. This one was from her MySpace profile, not from a Paparazzi.

Third, and with all due respect, I’m criticising and trying to make a point here, not trying to convince people that I have followed her career all along but only now sticking my head out of the bush, wanting to be in the heat of the media driven limelight of her death. I’m not the hypocrite here, and I won’t shut up, just because I’m using some similar mean of public communication. Should political propaganda be banned, just because it sometimes is portrayed on posters or blogs, like politicians portray themselves in the same manner?

Fourth: I doubt my post here will reach a wide audience :-)

  4. I quote myself “… I know you mean good…”. I don’t think you have been hypocrite and you definetly shouldn’t shut up, how boring that would be!
As you stated in your post “Uncontrolled rant ahead” and I’m aware of your impulsive response to the media scavanging on people misfortunes. I still think, in order to make a difference, we should pay attention to our actions even the small ones and don’t let routine dictate any aspect of our lives (N.B. I include myself because I suck at it).
Anyway, your point is taken, and in case of doubts, it is now straighten out to your wide and ever-growing audience. ;-)
